What to Consider When Choosing a Flower Girl Dress

Traditionally, as part of the wedding processional just before the bride enters the flower girl prepares the way for the bride by tossing flower petals along the path. It is one of those moments during the wedding that brings smiles to the faces of all the guests.

The flower girls are cute as a button, small as they are, carrying their flower baskets and adorned with their beautiful flower girl wedding dresses.

Choosing just the right dress for the flower girl isn’t as important as the bride’s wedding dress of course, but nevertheless should be given due thought. Usually in the past the flower girls’ dress was chosen to match the wedding dress worn by the bride. And it was ordinarily white. This was designed to make the flower girl look like a smaller version of the bride.

But more and more, the white wedding is being replaced by ivory themed weddings. This change does make it a little easier to find the right dress since there is a greater variety of colors and shades to choose from. Just like with the wedding dresses themselves, flower girl dresses can be somewhat fancy or more simple in design and look. Of course, the prices can vary a good bit but a flower girl dress does not have to be very expensive. While you may or may not want to get your wedding dress at a place such as a thrift store, it may be that you can find a little girl’s dress that would be perfectly suitable for your flower girl. It might require a special cleaning or a little work in adding some laces or other special touches.

The age of the flower girl may have something to do with the choice of dresses well. Most flower girls are very young and will likely not have a lot to say about their dress. If the child is older such as a preteen, then it is more likely that they will want to have some input into what they will be wearing.
