Shopping for the Antique Silver Teapot

Fortunately it is not too difficult to find a genuine antique silver teapot, as many were produced during the time of the Industrial Revolution, when almost every middle class to upper class family owned one.  The oldest types of antique teapots usually found are Georgian silver teapots. These were made between the years of 1714 till around 1837, or during the reigns of several King Georges. Victorian teapots are those that were made from around 1840 till 1900.

The earliest known silver teapot is from 1670 and it can be seen at the Victoria and Albert museum in London. There is a very keen interest in teapots made during the 1600 and 1700’s and as they are quite rare they are usually fairly highly priced. The older the teapot, the more you should expect to pay for it. For example, a Georgian teapot made in the 1700’s could cost you around $2,500.  Prices drop for the Victorian teapots as these are quite a bit more common, still you should expect to pay anywhere up $1000 for one. Silver teapots made in the early to mid 1900’s could cost anywhere from $500 to $700 or so.

As there is a fairly brisk trade and a lot of interest in antique silverware, tea pots, tea accessories and tea sets included, they are fairly easy to locate and purchase.  Many antique dealers sell them thus visiting an antique shop should, in most cases, provide you with a few different teapots to look at. You can also buy these online from reputable online antique stores.  They are also often auctioned or sold on popular online auction sites, such as eBay.

Unless you are familiar with antique silverware you may want to buy your antique silver teapot from a recognized antique dealer rather than bidding for one online, as fakes do exist and people are often only too willing to sell them to unsuspecting bidders.
