Finding Great Stuff at Flea Markets

Shopping flea markets may be a foreign concept to some people, but to those who make a habit of it, great rewards will eventually be found. Treasure can be hiding amongst the worthless junk piles, if only, you are dedicated to the search.

Flea market shoppers and dumpster divers know that the key to success is repetition and a keen eye. You may not find something on your first outing, but with repeated trips to the market, you will find success. First, going out with an open mind is key. Don’t automatically discard an item because it has a few dings or scrapes. Many items can easily be restored with a bit of effort.

Also, you may want to educate yourself in the area of antiques so you will know if you happen on a valuable treasure. Some items could be hundreds of years old and covered in dust, but if you know what to look for, like special stamps or markings, you are more likely to find something of value.

Flea markets and garage sales, can be great places to find collectible items at great discounts or even jewelry, like a wide sterling silver cuff bracelet. If you familiarize yourself with vintage items, you will know if you have found a true gem. You may even find a rare book, or an old map, something that could be very valuable on the resale market. Many times the sellers of these items, just want to get rid of them, not aware of their true value, and will make you an incredible deal.

Another tip, you may want to take along a reference book of old items, if you are just starting out. That way you can check items against the pictures provided. You may not score on the very first thing you find, but with perseverance, you will likely end up with some great deals and have a whole lot of fun developing a new hobby!
