A History and Review of the Miss Dior Perfume
Miss Dior perfume is an eau de toilette created for women by Christian Dior. This ladies perfume, which debuted in 1947, was Dior’s first perfume and created on the trails of the successful “New Look” collection. It was designed by either Paul Vacher or Jean Charles under Dior’s direction, and paved the way for a long tradition of designer Dior perfumes. The bottle, which was small and made of clear cut glass, was designed by Guerry Colas. The fragrance gained popularity for being considerably lighter and simpler than most fragrances in the 1940s, making it an easy perfume to wear for both young and old alike, and remains in popular demand today.
The product is considered a moderate strength perfume, with no recommended age demographic. It is best used as a casual daytime scent. The fragrance is described by Dior as a green floral chypre spirit, and contains three key fragrance notes. The top note is galabanum, a middle eastern plant that lends a herbaceous scent. The heart note is jasmine, one of the most common flowers in fragrances. And the base note is patchouli, an Indonesian plant which is typically found in chypre, woody and oriental fragrances, which is also a very common perfume ingredient.
In the late 1980s, the fragrance suffered a drop in sales in the U.S, and was repackaged in 1992 in a sleeker, finer and less detailed glass bottle. The formula for the scent is said to have been untouched; however, in 2005 Dior introduced the Miss Dior Cherie scent, which carries on the theme of green chypre. Unlike the original perfume, which is a clear amber/yellow, Miss Dior Cherie is a light pink and has an even lighter scent.
The product is currently offered by Dior in most of western Europe, Russia, the Americas, and Asia, and is available through most major perfume retailers. One spray bottle containing 50 ml of the perfume retails for 68.00 dollars. The projected scent life is six to ten years. Christian Dior Perfume offers a full complimentary toiletries line, which in addition to the eau de toilette includes an extrait de parfum and a Diortendre body lotion in matching scents.
